…for two to share

Reverie

Fireside watching after noon

   on such a cloudy day,

it may be not the best of times

   to stay alone here silently,

to stay inside this house

   with crowded happy thoughts

      on such a cloudy day.

The chill rampage encloses

house and home and hearth and me,

and I alone contain

   the quiet fire and you.

Your happy smiles I know so well

   surpass the warming feat

      of embering wood,

the tranquil moment stays a moment more,

and one remains for two to share.
