scant promise of high noon

“…partly sunny…”

The wayward sun can do no more

than linger at the entrance to the day.

There is no rush to dawn,

no vaulting ray to chase

   the shadows of the night…

…and later, in the guise of day,

the pallid star is cloud-cloaked, cool,

it drifts to mid-sky,

gives only scant promise of high noon.
